Agenda Topics:
-
Agenda Topic 1: JCAA Leadership Experience
Opportunity Program (LEO)
Purpose/Action: Two important goals for JCAA are
to build leadership capacity within our own district,
for both central and school based positions, and to help
prepare and recruit minority administrators. Because there
are fewer assistant principal positions, aspiring school
based administrators have limited opportunities for leadership
experience. Therefore, JCAA is exploring implementation
of a program which offers aspiring administrators meaningful
and purposeful leadership opportunities. The purpose of
the discussion was to gather input from members about how
to best structure this program. The JCAA Associate Member
Program Steering Committee used this data as they
developed the structure for this program.
-
Agenda Topic 2: Mentoring for New School
and Department Administrators
Purpose/Action: School district leaders are facing
greater challenges and are being held more accountable,
both those leaders in schools and those working in central
departments. The purpose of this discussion was to gather
input on how the district can best give new administrators
and professional / technical employees the support they
need to be successful. Participants discussed these
types of questions:
-
What should a mentorship program look
like for new central administrators and professional
/ technical employees?
-
What should a mentorship program look
like for new school based administrators?
-
What types of support worked well
for you when you began your career?
-
What didn't work well for you?
-
Who do you go to now for support?
-
Agenda Topic 3: Evaluation of the Budgeting
for Results Process
Purpose/Action: The JCAA Board would like to gather
feedback from our members regarding the Budgeting for
Results process to share with district leadership before
they start planning the budgeting process for next year.
Participants discussed these three questions:
-
Now that the district has gone through
a full cycle of this new budgeting process, what do
you think worked well which you would like to see
sustained?
-
What changes or improvements would
you like to see for next year's budgeting process?
-
What things (concepts, concerns, cautions)
should district leadership think about as they plan
for next year?

Agenda Topic 1: JCEA and CSEA Negotiations
Purpose/Action: Employee Relations
asked JCAA what their top two JCEA and CSEA contract issues
are for negotiations this year. The purpose of this discussion
was to gather feedback from our members to learn what their
priorities are for contract negotiations as we continue to
represent their interests. The suggestions will be shared
with the management teams and JCAA representatives on the
negotiations teams.
-
Agenda Topic 2: Administrative Compensation
System
Purpose/Action: The Administrative Compensation Committee,
which includes JCAA representatives, will be examining alternative
compensation systems this year. Changes to the current compensation
system are dependent on the information the Committee discovers
during this examination period regarding the viability of
our program as compared to alternative programs; and the feasibility
of implementing a new system. Final decisions will be made
by Cabinet and the Board. The purpose of the discussion was
to hear the thoughts and issues about the current system and
to give a chance to let the Committee know what the members
would like them to consider as they delve into this task.
One parameter is that the system will continue to be pay for
performance, not steps and levels.
-
Agenda Topic #3: Open Forum
Purpose/Action: Participants shared any issues in a
small group setting, which they feel the JCAA Board should
address and recorded those issues on the feedback forms. Thoughts,
ideas, and concerns shared will be discussed and considered
at the JCAA Board of Directors meeting.
