Professional Development Steering Committee

The JCAA Professional Development Steering Committee is comprised of representatives from the articulation areas and the central services areas, as well as , the executive director. The committee meets once per month for a one and a half hour meeting.

Belief Statement:

The primary purpose of the JCAA Professional Development Steering Committee is to continually assess the professional needs of district administrators and to respond to those needs by:

  • advising the Association staff regarding appropriate professional development options, and
  • providing support in planning and conducting professional development activities.
Following are beliefs and values that guide the work of committee members:
The needs and concerns of all administrators throughout the organization should be considered. This implies that all articulation area and central administrative units should be represented on the committee and attendance of meetings should be a priority. Committee members serve as liaisons between the constituent groups they represent and JCAA.
Support to administrators is most likely to result when committee members consistently:
  • focus on leadership development with a vision toward the future,
  • focus on connecting professional development support to district goals and objectives,
  • maintain a current perspective on the changing needs of school district administrators and emerging trends that may impact schools,
  • define specific ways in which professional development workshops / events have practical applications in the workplace,
  • identity ways to enhance the morale of administrators in the face of increasing job demands and responsibilities,
  • address organization changes that occur,
  • maintain professionalism in their communication (internally and externally), and
  • balance the intensity of their professional obligations with light hearted fun and humor.
