Leadership Experience Opportunity

LEO is underway. 17 participants and their mentors met on October 19 at the Ed Center to formulate a plan for each participant. This year's group includes participants seeking elementary, middle, high and central experience. Thank you to all the mentors for setting aside their time to invest in the next set of Jeffco's leaders!

Issues Forum Report

60 JCAA members met in three forums spread out across the North, Central and South part of Jefferson County. Evaluation feedback indicatedt his forum was perhaps historically one of the most relevant in years. The summary report was forwarded to key individuals in the district.

A copy of the report summary is available to any JCAA member.

Request your copy by sending Mike Long an email.

TELL Survey

JCAA, JCEA and District Leadership formed an agreement for the manner in which TELL was supposed to "roll-out" within the buildings. According to that agreement;

1) Community Superintendent's developed a document showing how TELL correlated to the existing RtI work going on in buildings.

2) JCEA was supposed to train their AR's on that document, then release the TELL codes to the ARs

3) AR's were supposed to have a face-to-face conversation with their building principals about how the TELL data could be used to inform the LAT RtI conversation as one point in the body of evidence.

4) JCEA agreed that TELL was about the building, and NOT to be about the building leader.

If that wasn't the process by which TELL rolled out in your building, take the initiative, talk with your AR and get the survey put back into the context of RtI. Survey results will be made public in January 2009.

Building principals are encouraged to email or call Mike (303) 982-6839 with any instances where TELL data is being used to malign or undermine a principal.

New Membership Benefit

Effective in October of 2009, all levels of JCAA members are now joint members of the Colorado Principals' Center (CPC). JCAA members can now take CPC Professional Development courses and networking opportunities for the member rate.

A new screen has been added under the Professional Development tab to show partner training. CPC training, along with dates, places, and rates can be access through that screen.

Race to the Top

Jeffco Principals recently participated in a two hour focus gruop on Race to the Top. Requests were sent to the general membership and a number of middle, elementary and high school principals responded. The focus group was organized by the Colorado Principals' Center and hosted by JCAA. Representatives from the governor's office, and an east cost newspaper columnist also attended the meeting.
